Roaring on the Radio

Written by Tom Cameron on September 14, 2008

For the past two months or so I’ve had an ongoing project - setting up a radio station at my school. Now, before you ask, I’m not going solo — it’s a big project encompassing many students. However, as Technology Director for the project I’ve had a lot of fun making everything come together (and of course spending school funds on all the equipment that was needed!)

And now, finally, at 8:30am tomorrow morning we will have our first ever broadcast. Roar Radio has become a reality. Hopefully, if all goes to plan we will have a show going out from our server with no hitches. Yeah, right.

I know that absolutely nobody reads this blog, so I won’t blab on with advertising; but if you want to listen in then go to http://www.roarradio.co.uk/.

Harry Potter: Hari Puttar

Written by Tom Cameron on August 27, 2008

How ridiculous can you get? I just got a bulletin from my feed readers telling me about this new piece of news. An indian film company making a film named ‘Hari Puttar’, which, incidentally, has no relation to the actual Harry Potter franchise is being taken to court. Warner Brothers are overstepping their bounds again and going after a film that doesn’t hurt their company at all; it is truly ridiculous the litigious time we live in.

Harry Potter is Dyspraxic

Written by Tom Cameron on August 26, 2008

Err… well, Daniel Radcliffe is at least! I found this news very surprising; mainly surprising in that it doesn’t seem like something that would come out in an interview very easily. I was very, very shocked when seeing the headline on the websites I read ‘Harry Potter has Dyspraxia’, as we all know that cannot be true - after all, Harry Potter is an amazing quidditch player. With the way that Radcliffe portrays Harry while on screen it would be very difficult to tell that he has Dyspraxia himself - after all, there has never been a scene in which a Harry Potter character needs to tie their shoelaces!

Being dyspraxic myself I find this news article very heartening. Having a public figure such as Radcliffe come out in the media with this condition can only mean good things for public awareness.

Temple Grandin Biopic

Written by Tom Cameron on August 26, 2008

This is a very interesting piece of news that only came to my attention as recently as today is about a new film being released about autism. Well, I say new. This film is a long time in the making, having been on the backburner for multiple years. This film is a biopic of Temple Grandin’s life, set to be directed by Mick Jackson.

Having read Temple’s books myself, and watched a BBC documentary on her in the past I look forward to the release of this film greatly!

IRC: How to begin?

Written by Tom Cameron on August 26, 2008

This is a problem I’ve been thinking about for a while. Since a few years ago when I first got started using IRC I have always been interested in running my own server. Now, having the time and resources to do so I have no idea where to do it!

Overall, I’ve got two real choices.

  1. Make my own network. This is a plausible choice; but it’s a hard slog starting up a chat network, and I don’t know if it would ever really work. This is the easiest in the short-term.
  2. Join an existing network. This is my favoured option. My problem is where do I go? The only networks I regularly participate on are small, community-driven networks that already have enough server capacity without adding another to their network. I have no idea where to turn!

If I were to start up a network of my own, I already know that it would be Harry Potter related. And I already have a domain suitable for this; I just worry that for such a large investment of my time it may not work out as I would hope. We’ll see how it works out I suppose.

In the meantime if you run a network, or own a server and would like to partner me in developing a network then feel free to email me and we’ll see if we can work something out together.

First Entry

Written by Tom Cameron on August 25, 2008

Hey there,

This is my new blog. I’ve lost count of all the blogs I’ve made and failed to update in the past, and this is hopefully the last in a long line of failures. This time it’s going to be a success!

This blog is for everything that might come up in relation to Aspergers Syndrome or Autism. I, myself, am an autistic 17-year old from England; and as such I have a passion for finding information on these subjects — and now, passing it on to you. On this blog you will find anything from Youtube videos to news articles and onwards and upwards to articles on all subjects you can imagine.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy writing it.
